Why requirements come first

A strong application can still fail if it is built against the wrong specification.

Oxford and Cambridge do not operate one universal admissions process. Tests, required subjects, written work, portfolios and College-level expectations vary by course and may change between admissions cycles.

The practical risk is not simply missing a deadline. A student can spend months developing evidence that does not address the actual selection mechanism for the intended course.

01 · SUBJECTS

Required academic foundation

Identify which subjects are required, strongly recommended or relevant to the chosen course and qualification route.

02 · TESTS

Assessment route

See whether the current mapping indicates ESAT, TMUA, UCAT, LNAT, TSA or another course-specific assessment.

03 · COMPONENTS

Evidence beyond grades

Surface written work, portfolios, College assessments or other elements that may sit outside the central test process.

04 · VERIFICATION

Official confirmation

Move from an orientation tool to the current university course page before subjects, registration or preparation are finalised.

Interactive requirements checker

Check the route attached to your intended course.

Choose the university, course, qualification system and intended entry year. The result provides an orientation map, not an offer prediction or a substitute for the university’s published requirements.

Important: admissions arrangements can change. Treat the checker as a structured starting point and confirm every material decision using the official Oxford or Cambridge pages linked in the result.

How to use the result

Move from information to a verified preparation decision.

01 · ORIENT

Read the complete result

Consider the test, subject combination, additional components and qualification context together rather than treating any one field in isolation.

02 · VERIFY

Open the official source

Confirm the current course requirements, test arrangements, registration process and any College-specific rule before acting.

03 · SEQUENCE

Place it on the timeline

Use the Timeline tool to position preparation, registration and evidence-building within the remaining application cycle.

Requirements FAQ

Before relying on the result.

Does the checker guarantee that every requirement is current?

No. It provides a structured orientation based on the reviewed dataset, while the official university and course pages remain authoritative. Always verify before making a material decision.

Does it cover College-specific requirements?

It flags where College rules may matter, but it cannot replace checking the selected College. Cambridge requirements in particular may vary by College.

Can international qualifications be compared directly with A levels?

Not safely through an informal grade conversion. Oxford and Cambridge publish qualification-specific guidance and may also require particular subjects or levels.

Is the result an assessment of admission chances?

No. It describes relevant requirements and components. It does not calculate probability, evaluate the wider academic profile or predict an admissions decision.

Independent planning guidance. Transition Architect is not affiliated with Oxford, Cambridge or any admissions-test provider. Official institutional information always takes precedence.
